1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently, provide a better user experience, and give website owners useful information about how their sites are being used.
Cookies can be "session" cookies (which are deleted when you close your browser) or "persistent" cookies (which remain on your device for a set period of time or until you delete them).
Similar technologies like pixels, beacons, and local storage work in comparable ways and are covered by this policy when we refer to "cookies."
2. How PlugVerse Uses Cookies
PlugVerse uses cookies for several purposes. We categorize cookies into the following types based on their function:
2.1 Essential Cookies
These cookies are necessary for the website to function properly and cannot be switched off in our systems. They are usually only set in response to actions made by you, such as logging in, setting your privacy preferences, or filling in forms.
| Cookie Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| sb-*-auth-token | Supabase authentication and session management | Session |
| __stripe_mid | Stripe fraud prevention and payment security | 1 year |
| __stripe_sid | Stripe session identifier for payments | 30 minutes |
| csrf_token | Protection against cross-site request forgery | Session |
2.2 Functional Cookies
These cookies enable the website to provide enhanced functionality and personalization. They may be set by us or by third-party providers whose services we have added to our pages.
| Cookie Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| theme | Remember your dark/light mode preference | 1 year |
| locale | Remember your language preference | 1 year |
| sidebar_collapsed | Remember sidebar state preference | 1 year |
2.3 Analytics Cookies
These cookies help us understand how visitors interact with our website by collecting and reporting information anonymously. We use this data to improve our website and services.
Vercel Analytics: We use Vercel Analytics, a privacy-friendly analytics service that collects aggregated, anonymized data about website usage. Vercel Analytics does not use cookies for tracking. Instead, it uses server-side analytics that respects user privacy while providing us with valuable insights about site performance.
Vercel Analytics collects:
- Page views and unique visitors (anonymized)
- Geographic region (country level only)
- Device type and browser information
- Referrer information
- Page performance metrics
This data is not tied to individual users and cannot be used to identify you personally.
PostHog: We use PostHog, Inc. for product analytics, session tracking, and feature usage telemetry. PostHog sets cookies prefixed with ph_ to track user interactions across sessions. For details, see the PostHog Privacy Policy.
| Cookie Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| ph_* | PostHog product analytics, session tracking, and feature usage telemetry | 1 year |
| vercel_* | Vercel Analytics: anonymized page view and performance metrics | Session / 1 year |
2.4 Third-Party Cookies
Some cookies may be placed by third-party services that appear on our pages:
- Stripe: For secure payment processing. Stripe may set cookies for fraud prevention and to maintain your payment session.
- Supabase: For authentication and database services. Supabase cookies manage your login session securely.
- PostHog: For product analytics and session telemetry. PostHog may set
ph_*cookies to understand how users interact with the platform. See the PostHog Privacy Policy.
These third parties have their own privacy and cookie policies, which we encourage you to review.
3. Your Cookie Choices
3.1 Browser Controls
Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can typically find these settings in the "Options" or "Preferences" menu of your browser. Common browsers:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies
- Firefox: Options → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Cookies and website data
- Edge: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies
3.2 Consequences of Disabling Cookies
If you choose to disable cookies, please note that some features of PlugVerse may not work properly:
- You may not be able to log in or maintain your session
- Your preferences (theme, language) may not be saved
- Payment processing may be affected
- Some security features may not function correctly
3.3 Do Not Track
Some browsers include a "Do Not Track" (DNT) feature. Since there is no accepted standard for how to respond to DNT signals, PlugVerse does not currently respond to DNT browser signals. However, our use of Vercel Analytics already provides privacy-respecting analytics without individual tracking.
4. Cookie Retention
The length of time a cookie will remain on your device depends on whether it is a "session" or "persistent" cookie:
- Session cookies: These are temporary and are deleted when you close your browser.
- Persistent cookies: These remain on your device until they expire or you delete them. The retention period varies by cookie (see tables above).
5. Local Storage and Similar Technologies
In addition to cookies, we may use other local storage technologies to improve your experience:
5.1 Local Storage
Local storage allows us to store data locally within your browser. We use local storage for:
- Caching user preferences for faster page loads
- Storing draft content (like unsent messages) to prevent data loss
- Improving performance by reducing server requests
5.2 Session Storage
Session storage is similar to local storage but is cleared when you close your browser tab. We use it for temporary data during your browsing session.
6. Updates to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in technology, legislation, or our data practices. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy.
We encourage you to periodically review this page for the latest information about our cookie practices.
